Eligibility Requirements

The VCU Dental Scholars program is offered to 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade high school students from the Greater Richmond Area who are interested in exploring a career in dentistry. Students from outside areas may apply to participate as long as they have reliable transportation.

Program Description

Scholars will meet twice a month for 90-minute workshops beginning in November and ending in April at the VCU School of Dentistry. All sessions meet on Monday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Additional dates can be found on the flier. An emphasis is placed on hands-on activities. The first half of the workshop is composed of a lecture by a VCU dental student or faculty member, while the second half is a laboratory experience. Students will get the opportunity to visit the Dent-Sim lab, create impressions, carve a wax tooth, and more.

There is no cost for the program and all participants are responsible for providing their own transportation and parking. Participants are expected to be in attendance for the full duration of the program.
