Learning Excellence Academics Program (LEAP)
Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 who either have low vision or blindness affiliated with the VA Department for the Blind and Vision-Impaired, or students who live in the Capital Region of VA (Charles City, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan and Richmond City) who are affiliated with the Capital Area Health Education Center.
LEAP is a five-week college preparatory summer program where participants explore STEM-H majors and careers. Participants focus on transitional needs from high school to college such as increased personal responsibility, level of expectation and independent time management. LEAP participants take non-credit college-level writing, math and science courses taught by VCU professors and spend time each week with the clinical lab sciences department.
